Film Analysis: The Hangover

Ordinary World:  Doug is getting married to Tracy and they are planning the wedding.  Phil is a teacher, Stu is a doctor with a crazy girlfriend named Melissa, and Alan lives at home.
Call to Adventure:  Doug, Phil, Stu, and Alan are going to Las Vegas for Doug's bachelor party.
Refusal of the Call:  Melissa does NOT want Stu to go and is very uptight about the entire situation.  They lie to her and tell her they are going to the wine country.
Meeting with the Mentor:  After their night of partying, they lose Dough.  Phil apparently has been in the hospital ("Phil, you were in the hospital last night!" "Yeah, I guess I was." "Are you okay?!") so they visit the doctor to see if he can give them clues to where Doug might be. ("It's at the corner of get a map and ***k off. I'm a doctor, not a tour guide.")  They meet up with Eddie at the wedding chapel where he gives them clues to what really happened the night before. ("She's got my grandmother's Holocaust ring!" "I didn't know they gave out rings at the Holocaust.."
Crossing the Threshold:  Phil, Stu, and Alan lose Doug sometime during the night in Vegas and begin the journey of finding him.
Tests, Allies, Enemies:  While looking for Doug, Phil, Stu, and Alan stumble upon many clues one being that they were gambling at the Bellagio and apparently stole a man's $80,000.  This man is "Mr. Chow. Leslie Chow."  They also stole Mike Tyson's tiger, Stu got married to Jade the stripper and also pulled his tooth out, Alan finds Carlos the baby. ("Check it's collar or something.")
Approach:  Mr. Chow claims that he has kidnapped Doug and wants his eighty grand back.  Phil, Stu, and Alan come up with the idea to win his money back for him in order to get Doug.  ("Gambling? Who said anything about gambling? It's not gambling when you know you're gonna win. Counting cards is a foolproof system." "It's also illegal." "It's not illegal. It's frowned upon, like m*********** on an airplane." "I'm pretty sure that's illegal too." "Yeah, maybe after 9/11, where everyone got so sensitive. Thanks a lot bin Laden.")
Ordeal:  They have won back the $80,000.  Mr. Chow gives them back the wrong Doug who also turns out to be the one that sold Alan the drugs.  ("That is not Doug." "What are you talking about Willis? That him!" "The Doug we're looking for is white.")
Reward:  'Black' Doug helps them realize where the real Doug is and they finally find him on top of Caesar's Palace sunburned and delirious. ("I always wondered why they were called roofies, 'cause you're more likely to end up on the floor than the roof. They should call 'em floories." "Or rapies.") He also let's them know that he found $80,000 worth of Bellagio chips in his pockets.
The Road Back:  They rush back to Doug's wedding and have tuxedos delivered to them on the road.  They make it just in time.
Resurrection:  Doug is able to salvage his relationship with his fiance, Stu finally breaks up with Melissa, and Alan is still close friends with all of them as well as trying to hit on Melissa. ("You know, I was thinking of getting my bartending license." "Suck my ****." "No, thank you.")
Return with Elixir:  Friendships are saved.  Alan finds the camera they used in Vegas.
"THAT'S CLASSIC!"

Adaptation.

Based on the song "Brick" by Ben Folds.
Can’t believe it’s only the day after Christmas. What horrible timing. I set my alarm for 6 a.m. and drag myself out of bed. I throw some clothes on in the dark. I’m numb. I head toward the couch where she is curled up. “Gracie, it’s time to go.” I whisper as I gently shake her awake. Her belly is already starting to swell. We’re actually going through with this. I’m feeling more alone than I ever have before. I have no choice. No one knows what we’re doing, where we’re going, or what’s going to happen.
We get into the freezing car and drive to the dreaded clinic. They call her name at 7:30 and she leaves me alone once again. I can’t stand the silence so I pace around the parking lot wondering if there is some possible way to make this moment more bearable. I decide to buy her flowers. Roses, actually. They’re her favorite. “Gracie.” I cry to myself. “Can’t you see it’s not me you’re dying for?” She must feel so alone then she ever has before. I need to go back to her. She is wheeled into the waiting room. Tears are streaming down both of our faces. Tears of heartbreak, shame, and loneliness. The flowers are dull and worthless. I throw them away and walk up to Gracie. No words are exchanged but then again, none are needed. For a moment, we’re alone as we drive back to her apartment.
As weeks go by, it’s apparent that she is not fine. Her parents have been calling. They know something is wrong and beg me to tell them the truth. I’m tired of lying. Gracie and I break down and the truth escapes. We messed up. An abortion shouldn’t have even been an option. It’s too late now.
This is drowning me. She’s alone. I’m alone. Now I know it.

.Grand Theft Poetry.

Memory Slip
I cry.

Feeling so overwhelmed.

The story of the mad.

Thought I would forget.

It's a singing sin

with an unequal temper.

Begging to be set free.

No.

You have forgotten.

Your dreams have faded.

Can not bear bondage.

Nothing else is.

The final pain, drove him blank.

You held his death in your lap.

I will never forget.

BAD poetry.

I almost died. It felt great.
If the light is off, it isn't on.
I turn to you for the strenght to be strong.
Never let me slip cause if I slip then I'm slippin.
You nag and brag and I gag. There's so much beauty in what we have.
I'm as serious as cancer.
She asked me my name. I told her what it was.
What else could I say? Everyone is gay.
She had Chinese eyes and ice cube lips.
Slowly walking down the hall faster than a cannonball.
Are you in astrology cause I'm tryin to make it to Uranus.
I'll lift you up like gravity.
I'd rather have a piece of toast.
Are we human? Or are we dancer?

M: You're sure about that?

Remembering the Past

How could I forget,

The pain, the blood, the sweat,

Trying my hardest to get to her,

Can't breathe through the smokey air,

I knew she was somewhere near,

Just trying to get through here,

Thinking of her loved ones,

Gives me the courage to run,

Remembering the past,

It all comes back so fast,

I couldn't get to her,

This memory won't blur,

If only I could rewind,

Maybe I wouldn't be so blind,

She would still be here,

My conscience would be clear,

But that is not the case,

Always feel this empty space.
